December 7--Pop Tarts

Do you really think I would give my family Pop Tarts for breakfast?  I don't know what it is about those things.  I kinda think they taste like a super-sweet brick.  I haven't bought them in years, but for a while there, I would give in and buy a box.  I've seen lots of recipes for homemade ones, and have never made them. Until now. 

It's basically a pie crust dough.  Lots of butter.

I mixed the strawberry preserves with vanilla and flour.

Crimp the edges with a fork and poke steam holes in the top.

Drizzle with a simple icing. 

These were more like a Toaster Strudel than a Pop Tart. 

Super yummy--the kids loved them.  I will definitely make these again!
